The Power to Begin Again

What happens when survival becomes the beginning of a new story?

The Sound of Survival is a podcast hosted by Sandy Duarte and Shrenik Shah, two Stage IV cancer survivors, advocates, and storytellers who have transformed their personal experiences into a shared mission: to explore what it means to begin again.

Through honest conversations about cancer survivorship, resilience, identity, creativity, advocacy, and life beyond diagnosis, Sandy and Shrenik explore the questions that often emerge after the most difficult chapters of our lives. How do we find purpose after profound change? How do we reclaim our identity, reconnect with joy, and imagine a future we may never have expected?

This is a podcast about the power to begin again — and the many ways we discover it.

Two Extraordinary Journeys. One Shared Purpose.

Sandy Duarte is a Dora Award-winning actress, author, producer, sound healing practitioner, and Stage IV Non-Hodgkin lymphoma survivor. Her book, Cancer Ramblings, was written in real time during chemotherapy, capturing the raw, unfiltered experience of confronting mortality, navigating uncertainty, and discovering new meaning in life. Her creative work has since expanded into Love Wrapped in Sound, a sound healing practice born during treatment, and a wider mission to bring wellness, storytelling, and human connection into the world. Recognized by OncoDaily as one of its 2026 Top 100 Most Influential Cancer Survivors, Sandy continues to use her voice and creativity to broaden the conversation around cancer survivorship and life after treatment.

Shrenik Shah is a Stage IV laryngeal cancer survivor, international keynote speaker, TEDx speaker, mentor, and patient advocate. Following cancer treatment in 1997, Shrenik lost his natural voice and learned to communicate using an electrolarynx, transforming what he calls his Bionic Voice into a powerful platform for advocacy, education, and connection. Through his speaking and mentoring, he challenges assumptions about disability and survivorship, sharing his experience with audiences around the world. His story has reached the iconic screens of Times Square in New York City, reflecting a journey defined not by limitation, but by adaptation, purpose, and the determination to keep moving forward.

Their journeys are different, but their shared understanding runs deep: a diagnosis can change the course of a life, but it does not have to define everything that follows.

Why We Came Together

We came together because we recognized something in each other — the courage to begin again, the determination to turn lived experience into meaningful work, and the desire to reach people navigating their own moments of uncertainty.

Survival is not a neat ending. Life after cancer can bring questions about identity, relationships, purpose, work, creativity, and the person we become when the life we imagined takes an unexpected turn. These conversations deserve space beyond the examination room, beyond treatment milestones, and beyond the familiar language of fighting and surviving.

Through The Sound of Survival, we bring our voices, perspectives, and experiences together to explore what happens next. We talk about resilience without pretending it is always easy, advocacy without losing sight of the individual, and healing as a deeply personal journey. We make room for fear and uncertainty, but also for laughter, reinvention, connection, and the joy of discovering new possibilities.

Conversations About Life Beyond Diagnosis

Each episode invites listeners into thoughtful, candid conversations about cancer survivorship, life after cancer treatment, resilience, disability, identity, mental and emotional well-being, creative reinvention, patient advocacy, and finding purpose after adversity.

We explore the realities that are not always captured in medical appointments or survivorship statistics: the work of rebuilding, the relationships that change, the questions that remain, and the moments that remind us how much life still has to offer.

Whether you are living beyond cancer, supporting someone you love, working in healthcare, advocating for patients, or navigating a major life transition of your own, The Sound of Survival offers stories and perspectives that invite reflection, connection, and possibility.

This is not a podcast about having all the answers. It is about asking better questions, sharing what we have learned, and making space for conversations that help people feel less alone.

Because survival is not the end of the story. It is an invitation to discover what comes next.

Two Powerful Voices.

East Meets West.

One Shared Mission.

When Sandy Duarte and Shrenik Shah come together, two extraordinary journeys become one powerful conversation. Bringing together Eastern and Western perspectives, lived experience, creativity, advocacy, and an unshakable belief in the possibility of beginning again, they offer audiences a compelling and deeply human exploration of what it means to move through adversity and discover what comes next.

As Stage IV cancer survivors, advocates, and storytellers, Sandy and Shrenik bring more than personal testimony to the stage. They bring the perspective of two people who have navigated life-altering diagnoses and transformed their experiences into platforms for connection, education, and change. Their combined voices invite audiences to rethink resilience, challenge assumptions, and consider how we find meaning, purpose, and possibility when life takes an unexpected turn.

Available for keynotes, fireside chats, panel discussions, corporate events, healthcare conferences, patient advocacy gatherings, and special engagements, Sandy and Shrenik create conversations that reach beyond cancer to explore reinvention, identity, the human spirit, and the power of connection.

Bring two powerful forces together for a conversation your audience will carry with them long after the event ends.
